Degree days

Last Updated: Dec 07, 2017 10:46AM CET
DEXCell Energy Manager automatically calculates you both Heating and Cooling Degree Days, and are free of charge, if you have any temperature meter in your location (physical or virtual).

DEXCell EM will offer you three different parameters according degree days: Cooling Degree Day parameter, Heating Degree day parameter and the addition of both.

In order to have Degree Days in DEXCell EM, either with Wunderground or with your own outdoor temperature sensor, the key is to have your location properly configured, so please make sure you:
1- Have well set the Winter/Summer reference temperature in the location.
2- And also have set the "Outdoor temp" Reference Meter in the location.
By doing both actions you'll have automatically a new device "degree days" in the configured location (remember that degree days are calculated once per day).

Heating degree days

  • Once configured an "Outdoor temperature" on Location data page, software will calculate automatically each day the "heating degree days". Reference temperature has to be configured in Location data page.
  • Here you can see used formulas for heating degree days:

Condition Used formula
Tmin>Tbase Dh=0
(Tmax+Tmin)/2>Tbase Dh=(Tbase-Tmin)/4
Tmax>=Tbase Dh=(Tbase-Tmin)/2-(Tmax-Tbase)/4
Tmax<Tbase Dh=Tbase-(Tmax+Tmin)/2

  • Degree Days calculation will be done each morning at 8:00h. In case of changing "Outdoor Temperature", you should wait next morning in order to get first calculations or recalculate parameter.

Cooling degree days

  • Once configured an "Outdoor temperature" on Location data page, software will calculate automatically each day the "cooling degree days". Reference temperature has to be configured in Location data page.
  • Here you can see used formulas for cooling degree days:

Condition Used formula
Tmax<Tbase Dc=0
(Tmax+Tmin)/2<Tbase Dc=(Tmax-Tbase)/4
Tmin<=Tbase Dc=(Tmax-Tbase)/2-(Tbase-Tmin)/4
Tmin>Tbase Dc=(Tmax+Tmin)/2-Tbase

  • Degree Days calculation will be done each morning at 8:00h. In case of changing "Outdoor Temperature", you should wait next morning in order to get first calculations or recalculate parameter.
